Non-standard numberplates
You can order a variety of non-standard numberplates from Access Canberra.
They come in metal or plastic. You can order plastic numberplates in a range of colours.
Logos and slogans can be added to plastic numberplates for an additional fee.
Access Canberra will refuse applications for numberplates which would cause offence to a reasonable person.
Motorcycles
Non-standard numberplates are also available for motorcycles but there are some limitations due to the material and size of the numberplate ordered.
Order a non-standard numberplate
To order a non-standard numberplate, visit an Access Canberra Service Centre.
Fees vary depending on the type of numberplate ordered.
Our Service Centre staff will give you with a quote before you make a decision.
Gift certificates are also available for non-standard numberplates once the order has been processed and paid for.

The numberplates described below are for demonstration purposes only, they may not necessarily be available for purchase and the colours and artwork may vary.
Numberplates are subject to approval by Access Canberra.
Personalised
Personalised numberplates consist of 2 letters followed by 3 numbers.
A European style numberplate made as a personalised numberplate will consist of the letter 'A' followed by 2 letters then 3 numbers.
Fees are correct as at 1 July 2024. All fees are subject to change without notice.

You can use a commonly known given name, surname, initials or nickname up to a maximum of 7 characters.

Rainbow
Rainbow numberplates are standard size metal plates with a rainbow stripe along the bottom.
Slim Line, European, Bike Rack or special edition plate types can’t be remade with the rainbow stripe.

Order rainbow numberplate remakes
Business
Business numberplates are available using the name or initials of the business.
If you purchase a batch of consecutively numbered business plates in one transaction, you'll receive a discount. Later transactions for another consecutively numbered batch will be priced at the standard fee.
Proof of operation of the business must be provided. Business numberplates come in standard or slimline size in plastic or metal (European style metal only).

Unique
Unique numberplates are any combination of letters and numbers not covered by another category such as names.

Standard European style
Standard European style numberplates must start with the letter 'A' then a space which contains the ACT crest and bluebell logo, then a combination of 6 letters and numbers following the standard ACT 'Y' series format.

Non-standard European style
Non-standard European style numberplates are available in personalised, name, business, unique and vehicle make styles.
They are not available in Brumbies, Raiders or numeric styles.
Non-standard European personalised numberplates must start with the letter 'A' before the personalised sequence. All other non-standard European numberplates do not need to start with the letter 'A'.

Vehicle make
Vehicle make numberplates are any combination of numbers and letters that describe the make of a vehicle.

Numeric
Numeric numberplates for motor vehicles contain 4 to 5 digits, motorcycles contain 1 to 5 digits and trailers contain 1 to 5 digits with the letter 'T'.
When 1, 2 and 3 digit numeric numberplates for motor vehicles become available for purchase they will be offered to the public. They are not available for purchase at an Access Canberra Service Centre.

Remake as slimline
Slimline numberplates are available as a replacement of your current numberplates. Logos and slogans are not available for slimline numberplates. A slimline set consists of a front slimline and a rear standard numberplate.

GI slimline
GI Slimline Plate sets are available in Standard ‘Y’ Series format. They consist of a slimline front and rear plate. These plates can be ordered or remade as Personalised, Name, Unique, Business or Vehicle Make Plates. GI Slimline plates are not available in plastic, with a slogan or logo or as a Numeric Plate.

Brumbies
Brumbies numberplates are available in premium series or special series. Premium series are 'BR 0' to 'BR 200'. Special series are 'BR 0201' to 'BR 1200' and 'BR 1996' to 'BR 2005'.

Bike rack
Bike rack numberplates are for attaching to bicycle racks at the rear of a motor vehicle. If your motor vehicle has European style numberplates the bike rack numberplate will be made in a standard style.
