Recycling and waste
ACT recycling and waste collection is managed by City Services.

Residential bin collection
There are 3 bin types that are collected from your household on either a weekly or fortnightly basis:
- a 240 litre recycling bin with a yellow lid
- a 140 litre rubbish/landfill bin with a dark green or red lid
- an optional 240 litre garden organic green waste bin with a light green lid.
If you live in a multi-unit dwelling with shared waste facilities, recycling and waste systems can vary depending on where you live.

- report a problem (such as a damaged bin or missing bin or missed collection)
- request an additional or upgraded bin
- get help putting your bins out for kerbside collection

Bulky waste collection
All ACT residents can book one free bulky waste collection per calendar year.
You can request collection of up to 2 cubic metres of items you’d otherwise take to the tip.

Drop-off facilities
The ACT has 2 resource management centres where ACT residents can recycle and dispose of items that don’t belong in household wheelie bins. They are located at:
- Flemington Road, Mitchell
- Mugga Lane, Symonston

You can also drop off household recycling for free at recycling drop-off centres. Glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans, paper and flat cardboard are accepted at the following locations:
- Jolly Street, Belconnen
- 3 O’Brien Place, Gungahlin
- 22-26 Baillieu Circuit, Mitchell
- 38 Botany Street, Phillip
- Scollay Street, Tuggeranong
Eligible empty drink containers receive a 10-cent refund per item through the ACT Container Deposit Scheme.

Waste and recycling fees
